2-tert-Butyl-4,6-dinitro-5-methylanisole is a sesquiterpene lactone that inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to their DNA. It is used in wastewater treatment to inhibit bacterial growth and can be used as an alternative to potassium dichromate, which has been shown to exhibit some carcinogenic properties.
