2-Bromo-6-chloro-4-methylpyridine is a selective photoactive compound that can be used as a photosensitizer for the photocatalytic reduction of formic acid. This compound is also a ligand, which is an organic molecule that binds to metal ions and alters their properties. 2-Bromo-6-chloro-4-methylpyridine has been shown to catalyze the formation of formic acid from methanol and hydroxyl radicals in the presence of catalysts such as copper (II) acetate and ferrous chloride.
2-Bromo-6-chloro-4 methyl pyridine has not been shown to have any other functions at this time.
