It is used in the production of crosslinked epoxy resins, which are polymerized by cationic polymerization. The reaction rate of BPIHF is decreased by light irradiation. Bis(4-tert-butylphenyl)iodonium hexafluorophosphate has been shown to be a highly reactive compound and can react with chalcones and benzoates, which leads to the formation of cationic polymerization products.
