Benzeneseleninic Acid is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of selenium compounds. It has been shown to be an inhibitor of the enzyme group p2, which is responsible for synthesis of prostaglandins, and is used in some pharmaceutical preparations. Benzeneseleninic Acid has also been shown to inhibit the enzymatic activity of murine hepatoma cells and induce the formation of antibodies against the mouse's own tissue. This compound binds with hydrogen bonds to selenium-containing enzymes and prevents them from performing their catalytic function. The redox potentials are important for this binding process, as they determine whether a molecule can act as an oxidizing or reducing agent.
