Bis(phenylthio)methane is a compound that belongs to the group of anions and has hydrochloric acid as its conjugate base. It is insoluble in water, but soluble in organic solvents. Bis(phenylthio)methane is a functional group and can be used as a bidentate ligand. This substance is also nucleophilic and a good ligand for metal ions, such as selenium compounds. Bis(phenylthio)methane reacts with chloride to form the corresponding carbanion. It has been shown to be crystallised and synthetically produced in metathesis reactions.
