1,4-Bis(aminomethyl)cyclohexane (cis- and trans- mixture) is a diisocyanate that can react with a variety of compounds to form polyurethanes. It has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of corrosion in epoxy resins and a growth factor for epidermal cells in culture. 1,4-Bis(aminomethyl)cyclohexane has also been found to have an amide group, which is important for its biological activity. This compound is used as a fragrance agent and has optical properties that make it useful for the manufacture of polycarbonate plastics. The cis- and trans- mixture isomers are optically active.
