Descrição:2,3-Butanedithiol is a membrane transport agent that is soluble in water and has a low melting point. It is able to transport protons through membranes with high efficiency. 2,3-Butanedithiol has been shown to be an effective anticancer agent against sarcoma 180 in mice and may be useful as an inhibitor of bacterial growth. 2,3-Butanedithiol can also act as a chemical reagent in coordination studies. It binds to metal ions and forms coordination complexes with them. This compound is biodegradable and the monomers can be synthesized from butyric acid, which occurs naturally in the human body.
