Bergamottin is a natural compound that has been shown to have a range of effects, including DNA binding activity and the ability to induce apoptosis in cells. It induces apoptosis in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes and HL-60 cells by activating caspase-independent cell death. Bergamottin also blocks the process of cell division by inhibiting the synthesis of RNA and protein. This compound has been found to inhibit the activity of drug transporters, such as P-glycoprotein (Pgp) and multidrug resistance proteins. It is also able to inhibit squamous cell carcinomas in animal models.
