Butin is a chemical compound that is found in the skin of the peach fruit. It has been shown to have mitochondrial membrane potential and oxidative DNA damage, inhibiting copper-dependent production of reactive oxygen species. Butin has also been shown to have cardioprotective effects, inhibiting reactive oxygen species and intracellular calcium levels. Research has also shown that butin inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species by skin cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit ATPase activity.
