3-Bromobenzohydrazide is a benzohydrazide derivative that can be used as an antifungal agent. It binds to the iron ion, which is required for the synthesis of mycocerosic acid, an essential component of bacterial cell walls. 3-Bromobenzohydrazide has been shown to have antimicrobial properties against c. neoformans and other fungi, as well as tuberculosis (TB). The drug will not work against MRSA or Candida albicans because they do not require iron for the synthesis of mycocerosic acid. 3-Bromobenzohydrazide has also been found to be a functional molecule that can scavenge radicals and react with nitric oxide (NO).
