2,6-Bis(bromomethyl)naphthalene is a synthetic chemical compound. It has been shown to have anti-cancer properties and can be used in the treatment of cancer. 2,6-Bis(bromomethyl)naphthalene binds to cisplatin and prevents it from binding to DNA by competitive inhibition. This prevents the formation of cisplatin-DNA adducts that are required for DNA replication and transcription. The photophysical properties of 2,6-bis(bromomethyl)naphthalene were studied using optical spectroscopy techniques with HCT116 cells. The molecular modeling study showed that 2,6-bis(bromomethyl)naphthalene interacts with cisplatin through hydrogen bonding interactions and hydrophobic interactions. The synthesis of this compound occurs through a radioisotope process involving the irradiation of a coumarin derivative with alpha particles or gamma rays.
