N-tert-Butylmaleimide is an organic compound that has been used as a reagent in the study of steric interactions, mechanism studies, and chromatographic methods. It reacts with proteins to form crosslinked polymers. N-tert-Butylmaleimide is also used as an intermediate for the preparation of monoclonal antibodies. Chemical reactions involving this compound include polymerization and the formation of maleamic acid from maleic acid and ammonia. The optical properties of N-tert-Butylmaleimide are dependent on its concentration and can be used as a sample preparation agent. Chlorides, fatty acids, and growth rates are among the many other physical properties that can be determined using this chemical.
