Bis(hexafluoroacetylacetonato)platinum(II) is a platinum-based compound that can be used as a monomer in an electroluminescent device. Bis(hexafluoroacetylacetonato)platinum(II) emits light when it is irradiated with UV or visible light, and this emission is dependent on the size of the molecule. Bis(hexafluoroacetylacetonato)platinum(II) has been shown to form copolymers with polymers such as polystyrene and polyethylene. This compound also has the ability to bind to ligands such as silicon, which may be useful for fabricating nanometer-sized devices. The crystal structure of bis(hexafluoroacetylacetonato)platinum(II) has been studied using x-ray diffraction techniques.
