Flunarizine is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to treat migraine. It blocks the calcium channels that cause vasodilation and inhibits mitochondrial function, leading to reduced inflammation. Flunarizine has been shown to have a mechanism of action similar to that of other anti-inflammatory drugs, such as aspirin and ibuprofen. Flunarizine is an antagonist of the angiotensin II type I receptor, which leads to inhibition of inflammation caused by this receptor. Flunarizine also has an effect on cerebral blood flow and can be used for the treatment of head injury.
