2-[(2-Hydroxyacetyl)oxy]acetic acid is a hydrolyzing agent that is used in the acylation reaction. 2-[(2-Hydroxyacetyl)oxy]acetic acid is a colorless, crystalline solid and has a melting point of 159-163°C. It is soluble in water, but not in organic solvents. This product can be used to produce an acylation product that contains an acetyl group, which can be obtained by dehydration of the glycolic acid ester.
