2-Chloro-1-(phenylmethyl)-benzimidazole is an isomer of the drug Taxol, which was originally isolated from the bark of the Pacific yew tree. It has been shown to have in vitro anticancer activity and has been used in treatments for breast cancer. 2-Chloro-1-(phenylmethyl)-benzimidazole is a cytostatic agent that binds to DNA, preventing nucleic acid synthesis and causing cell death. It inhibits ribonucleotide reductase activity and has been shown to be active against leukemia cells in culture. Irradiation or solvents can cause destruction of this drug, so it should be stored at 4 °C in a dark place.
