4-Chloro-7-nitroquinazoline is an organic compound that is used as a mutagen. It is not active against typhimurium bacteria, but has been shown to be mutagenic in other experiments. 4-Chloro-7-nitroquinazoline can be used to produce nitrosamines by reacting with amines or formamide. This chemical has also been shown to be mutagenic in the presence of hydrochloric acid and magnetic fields. 4-Chloro-7-nitroquinazoline can also react with chloride and phosphorus pentachloride to form chlorides, which are known carcinogens. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cells in culture when used at high concentrations, but does not have any effect on cells at low concentrations.
