3-Chloro-4'-fluoropropiophenone (3-CPP) is a chemical compound that belongs to the class of cyclic, oxygen heterocycles. It is synthesized by the chemoenzymatic reaction of chlorohydrins with cyclohexene oxide in the presence of a chiral Lewis acid catalyst. 3-CPP is used as an intermediate for the synthesis of other drugs, such as carrageenan and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). 3-CPP has antiinflammatory activity that is mediated by inhibition of arachidonic acid metabolism and leukotriene biosynthesis. This drug also has been shown to have analgesic effects in animal models, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
