It is synthesized by the reaction of acetyl chloride and benzoic anhydride in the presence of quinone as catalyst and Bronsted or Lewis acid as anhydride. 1-(2-Chloro-4,5-difluorophenyl)ethanone has been used to acylate amines, alcohols, and thiols with benzoyl chloride.
