2-Chloro-N-(3,4-dimethoxybenzyl)acetamide is an initiator that has been used in the production of polyfluoroalkyl copolymers. It is a colorless liquid with a characteristic odor. 2-Chloro-N-(3,4-dimethoxybenzyl)acetamide is used as an initiator for the polymerization of acrylates and methacrylates. The copolymers are used for industrial applications such as coatings, sealants, adhesives, and plastics. 2-Chloro-N-(3,4-dimethoxybenzyl)acetamide can be operational at room temperature and does not require high pressure or elevated temperatures to initiate polymerization reactions. This compound has been shown to be useful as a reliable way to terminate polymerization reactions because it can be easily monitored by measuring the change in optical rotation of the monomer.
