4-Chloro-6-ethyl-5-fluoropyrimidine is a structural formula, which is a sodium hydrogen. It has been shown to be an antifungal drug with clinical activity against dermatophytes and Candida species. 4-Chloro-6-ethyl-5-fluoropyrimidine is converted to the active form by methylation in vivo. This conversion may be due to the presence of endogenous methylating agents or enzyme induction, as seen in patients receiving voriconazole. The chromatographic method for this compound consists of using a hydrocarbon solvent such as tetrahydrofuran or hexane, followed by an ionization detector such as nitrogen or argon gas. It can also be separated on a column containing aromatic hydrocarbons, such as octane or heptane. The impurities for this compound are mainly aliphatic hydrocarbons and chlorinated compounds.
