3-(4-Chlorophenyl)-2-thioxo-1,3-thiazolidin-4-one is an orally administered prodrug that is metabolized to the active form of the drug, which inhibits the production of amyloid beta. It binds and depletes the supply of copper from the enzyme that produces beta amyloid and reduces its production. 3-(4-Chlorophenyl)-2-thioxo-1,3-thiazolidin-4-one also has antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV). The monoclonal antibody (mAb) was able to redirect the positron emission tomography (PET) radiotracer in vitro, indicating that it can be used as a PET imaging agent for HSV.
