10-(Chloroacetyl)-10H-phenothiazine is an anti-cancer drug that has significant activity against cervical cancer cells. It also has antimicrobial properties and can be used as a broad-spectrum antibiotic and antifungal agent. 10-(Chloroacetyl)-10H-phenothiazine is active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Candida albicans. 10-(Chloroacetyl)-10H-phenothiazine binds to DNA by intercalating in the DNA double helix, with the chloroacetyl group forming a covalent bond with the DNA base guanine. This binding alters the conformation of the DNA, causing negative supercoiling of the molecule.
