This compound has been used as a fluorescent probe for the detection of hydrogen bonding in biological systems, including mitochondrial membrane potential, lipid bilayers, and fatty acid binding. 5-(Chloromethyl)-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde is also an intermediate for the synthesis of covalent linkages.
5-(Chloromethyl)-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde has a chemical structure that includes an aldehyde group and a hydroxyl group. The hydroxyl group is responsible for its reactivity with hydrochloric acid, while the carbonyl group reacts with pluronic p123 to form ester linkages.
