Coumarin337 is an ultrafast fluorescent dye with a short wavelength emission peak of 337 nm. It has been shown to be activated by radiation with an activation energy of about 12 kcal/mol. Coumarin337 has been shown to form hydrogen bonds with water molecules, which results in the light emission from the dye. Coumarin337 is also capable of forming dipole-dipole interactions with other coumarin derivatives, which leads to fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET). Coumarin337 is used in infrared spectroscopy for acceptor activation and overlapped spectra.
