2-(Chloromethyl)imidazole is a histidine analog that is used as a cancer chemotherapeutic agent. It inhibits the activity of human CXC chemokines and their receptors, which are involved in the process of tumor cell growth and metastasis. 2-(Chloromethyl)imidazole has been shown to inhibit the replication of erythrocytic parasites such as Plasmodium falciparum and Leishmania major, by inhibiting DNA synthesis. This drug also has anti-inflammatory properties by interfering with the bradykinin b2 receptor, which reduces inflammation. 2-(Chloromethyl)imidazole binds to metal ions such as copper (Cu(II)) or zinc (Zn(II)) in coordination geometry to form complexes that contain six ligands. The complex's geometry limits the mobility of the ligands, which affects its chemical reactivity.
