5-Chloro-1-ethyl-2-methylbenzimidazole is a molecule that has been studied for its use as a solar cell. It has the ability to absorb light and convert it into energy. 5-Chloro-1-ethyl-2-methylbenzimidazole can be used in organic solar cells as an additive due to its ability to increase the voltage of the cell by providing a dipole moment which increases the interaction of the molecule with light. This heterocyclic compound can also be used as a catalyst in acetonitrile, bifunctional with aldehydes, and nitrogen atoms.
5-Chloro-1-ethyl-2-methylbenzimidazole is most commonly used in photoinduced electron transfer reactions and photocurrent measurements.
