4-Chloro-2-fluoro-5-methylaniline (4CFMA) is a herbicide that inhibits the growth of plants by inhibiting the synthesis of essential aromatic amino acids. 4CFMA has been shown to be effective against a range of weeds, including eleusine indica, glyphosate resistant and resistant to other herbicides. It also has synergistic effects with other herbicides such as uracil derivatives, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the biosynthesis of aromatic amino acids in plants. The discovery and development of 4CFMA was based on the discovery that it inhibited the enzyme UDMH synthase in erythrocytes from animals. This enzyme plays an important role in the synthesis of uracil derivatives, which are needed for DNA replication.
