Descrição:Demecolcine is a substance that is found in plants. It has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on human cells and to inhibit the growth of hl-60 cells by interfering with microtubule formation. Demecolcine binds to the microtubules, preventing them from polymerizing and causing mitotic arrest in cell cycle. Demecolcine also blocks the production of tubulin, which are proteins that are needed for microtubule formation. This drug has been shown to be effective against colchicine-resistant cells that are resistant to other cytotoxic agents as well. The rate constant for demecolcine's binding to microtubules is 0.2 s-1, which is higher than that of colchicine (0.05 s-1). The signal peptide sequence of demecolcine has been found in human chromosome 1q42 and chromosome 4q21, suggesting it may play a role in the
