Chlorflurenol-methyl is a pesticide that inhibits the growth of microorganisms by binding to their cell walls. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of microorganisms such as actinomycetes and carboxylic acid group. Chlorflurenol-methyl also inhibits root formation, which may be due to its ability to inhibit hydroelectric activity in plants. Chlorflurenol-methyl binds to the cell wall of bacteria by forming covalent bonds with the carboxyl groups on the cell membrane. This prevents bacterial cells from taking up water, causing them to dehydrate and die. The reaction products are typically detected using a liquid chromatography mass spectrometer with an evaporative light scattering detector (LC-MS). Chlorflurenol-methyl is synthesized from chlorflurenol and methyl iodide in phaseolus beans.
