2-(4-Chlorophenyl)oxirane is a building block that is used in the synthesis of other compounds. It can be prepared by electrochemical oxidation of 2,4-dichlorobenzene with ethylene diamine as an electron donor. 2-(4-Chlorophenyl)oxirane has been shown to bind to and inhibit bacterial enzymes, such as hydroxylases and oxidases. In addition, this compound has been found to be a potent inhibitor of phytoene desaturase, which is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of phytoene into lycopene.
