Cyclosporin L is a drug that belongs to a class of drugs known as immunosuppressants. It is used in the treatment of type 1 diabetes, Crohn's disease, and psoriasis. Cyclosporin L binds to the T lymphocyte receptors and blocks their activation by the immune system. Cyclosporin L also inhibits the synthesis of proteins in cancer cells, which leads to their death. Cyclosporin L has been shown to be effective in treating chronic active hepatitis B and C virus infections. This drug has been shown to inhibit phospholipase A2 activity and decrease levels of prostaglandins that are associated with inflammation. Cyclosporin L also inhibits calcium carbonate-induced bone resorption in rats by inhibiting osteoclasts from releasing hydrogen ions from their lysosomes into the cytoplasm and activating them for bone resorption.
