C14 dihydroceramide is a fatty acid that is commonly found in human tissue. It is produced by the hydrolysis of C14-dihydroceramide, which is an intermediate in the metabolism of lysophosphatidic acid. C14 dihydroceramide has been shown to be elevated in patients with kidney disease and metabolic disorders, and may be a potential biomarker for these conditions. The mechanism of action of this compound remains unclear, but it has been shown to increase formyl levels and inhibit d-glucuronic acid synthesis. This inhibition of d-glucuronic acid synthesis leads to an accumulation of formyl-d-glucuronic acid, which modulates the growth of bacteria such as Enterobacteriaceae and Clostridium difficile.
