7-Chloro-8-methylquinoline is an inorganic acid that belongs to the class of quinoline derivatives. It is synthesized by chlorinating 7-chloroquinoline with a mixture of sodium hypochlorite and acetic acid. This substance has been shown to be able to degrade environmental pollutants, such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and dioxins. It also reacts with protonated chloride to form a ternary complex, which can easily undergo dehydration or decoupling reactions. The reaction yields are high because of the use of a cocatalyst, such as magnesium acetate. The molecular structure of 7-chloro-8-methylquinoline is shown below:
