4-Chlorobenzotrifluoride is a clear, colorless liquid that is used in organic synthesis as an electrophile. It has been shown to be toxic to mice and rats when administered orally or intravenously. 4-Chlorobenzotrifluoride reacts with n-dimethyl formamide to produce hydrogen chloride gas, which can lead to death by asphyxiation. This chemical has also been shown to cause damage to the kidneys and liver of laboratory animals. 4-Chlorobenzotrifluoride is corrosive to metal and may react violently with oxidizing agents such as chlorine, bromine, ozone, nitrous oxide, peroxide, etc., producing toxic gases.
