(-)-Cyclazocine is a structural analog of fentanyl that binds to the mu-opioid receptor. It has been shown to have analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties in animal studies. (-)-Cyclazocine is also an acetylcholine esterase inhibitor, which may account for its postoperative ileus effects. (-)-Cyclazocine is an efflux pump inhibitor, inhibiting the absorption of drugs such as fentanyl and morphine into the bloodstream by preventing their reuptake from the intestine. This inhibition may lead to increased side effects or toxicity with these drugs.
