2-Cyanoethyl methacrylate is a synthetic, reversible covalent polymer that is orally bioavailable. It has been shown to be safe and effective in the treatment of cancer in animal models. 2-Cyanoethyl methacrylate has also been used as a functional group for synthetic nanocarriers to target specific cells. This material is often used as an antigen carrier in immunizations or as a coating on dry weight and solid oral dosage forms to prevent antigen degradation by gastric acids or intestinal enzymes.
