1-(5-Chloro-1H-indol-3-yl)ethanone is a copper reagent used in organic synthesis. It has cytotoxic activity and can be used to produce 5-methoxyindole, which is an intermediate for the synthesis of anti-tumor drugs. 1-(5-Chloro-1H-indol-3-yl)ethanone can be prepared from acetyl chloride, 5 chloroindole, and copper (I) chloride. The product is a white solid that is soluble in organic solvents such as ether and benzene. This compound has been shown to have an acidic nature.
