2-(p-chlorophenyl)-3-methyl-butyric acid is an organic compound that is a monocarboxylic acid. It has a pungent odor and is used as a flavor additive in some food products, such as cheese, pickles, and chewing gum. 2-(p-Chlorophenyl)-3-methyl-butyric acid can also be found in human urine, kidney beans, and other foods. This substance can be synthesized by the dehydration of butyric acid with diethylamine salt (DEDA) followed by chromatographic purification. 2-(p-Chlorophenyl)-3-methyl-butyric acid is soluble in water and its melting point is 155°C.
