N-Carbethoxyphthalimide also reacts with piperazine in acidic conditions to form an intermediate that decomposes into hydrogen chloride gas and ammonia gas. This product can be used as a raw material for other organic compounds such as acrylamide and methacrylic acid, or it can be used as an intermediate for pesticides such as herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides.
