Cyclohexanol is a fatty acid ester with the hydroxyl group in the alpha position. It has conformational properties that are dependent on the hydrophobic effect and can be used as a solvent for hydrophobic compounds. Cyclohexanol has been shown to inhibit diabetic neuropathy, reactive oxygen species (ROS), and diabetes-induced oxidative stress. Cyclohexanol may also have a role in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease due to its ability to inhibit acetylcholinesterase activity. The reaction mechanism of cyclohexanol is not yet known, but it is believed that it occurs through either direct or indirect binding to metal hydroxides, such as calcium or magnesium hydroxide.
