Cyclopropyl-piperazin-1-yl-methanone (CPCP) is a benzonitrile derivative that has been shown to have activating effects on human breast carcinoma cells. CPCP also has inhibitory effects on the growth of cancer cells, which may be due to its ability to induce homologous recombination. This compound can be synthesized by reacting cyclopropyl-piperazine with nitrile. CPCP is soluble in trifluoroacetic acid and hydroxypropyl cellulose, but insoluble in water. It inhibits the growth of human breast carcinoma cells by binding to the matrix polymer, which prevents it from assembling into a three dimensional network. CPCP also inhibits the synthesis of DNA, RNA and protein produced by cancer cells.
