4-Cyanophenylalanine is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of phenylalanines. It has been shown to inhibit the transfer step of the reaction, which yields a fluorescence emission at 480 nm. The transition state for this reaction has been modelled and it was found to be at a lower energy than other reactions. 4-Cyanophenylalanine inhibits the reaction by irreversible inhibition, which is due to its ability to bind to the active site of the enzyme with a high affinity. This binding leads to an increase in vibrational frequency, as well as a decrease in fluorescence emission.
