2-Cyclooctylethylamine is a coupling agent that is used in the derivatization of organic compounds. It reacts with electrophiles to form a new bond. 2-Cyclooctylethylamine is also a regioselective reagent, which means that it will react preferentially at the 2-position of an alkyl group, making it useful for selective reactions. The palladium-catalyzed reaction requires a catalyst and an activator, such as copper or zinc acetate. This coupling reaction is highly chemoselective because of its high degree of specificity for the cyclohexyl group.
