Diazotisation is a chemical reaction in which an amine is reacted with a diazonium salt to produce a diazo compound. Diazotization can be used to synthesize 7-chloro-1H-indazole from tetrahydrofuran and chlorine gas. The antinociceptive effects of 7-chloro-1H-indazole have been shown in mice, where it was found to inhibit the production of nitric oxide and the cyclic guanosine monophosphate system. 7-Chloro-1H-indazole also inhibits an enzyme called nitrate reductase, which converts nitrite into nitric oxide, thus blocking the synthesis of this molecule.
