(R)-Chroman-4-ylamine hydrochloride is a lead compound with an unusual structure. It was found to have potent anti-cancer activity as well as apoptotic effects on tumor cells, which are mediated by tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFα). The cytotoxic effects of this drug are stereoselective, with the active enantiomer having a greater affinity for the TNFα receptor than the inactive one. The drug also has been shown to be selective for cancerous cells in vitro and in vivo. This compound was found to be a potent inhibitor of cellular growth and proliferation, leading to cell death.
