3-Chloro-6-methylbenzo[b]thiophene-2-carboxylic acid is a synthetic antibiotic that belongs to the class of aminoglycosides. It has been shown to have antibacterial activity against gram-negative bacteria by inhibiting protein synthesis and DNA replication. 3-Chloro-6-methylbenzo[b]thiophene-2-carboxylic acid has an apoptotic effect on cancer cells in vitro, leading to cell death through homologous recombination. This drug also inhibits cisplatin resistance in cancer cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit repair pathways in cancer cells.
