Chloromaleic acid anhydride is a chemical compound with the formula CHClO. It is the product of dry chlorination of maleic acid. The reaction products are mainly chloromethyl methyl ethers, chloromethyl ethyls and chloromethyl ethyl ethers, which are highly reactive. Chloromaleic acid anhydride has been used as a biocompatible polymer in detergent compositions. It can also be used to produce hydrochloric acid and hydrogen chloride by reacting with hydrochloric acid or hydrogen chloride respectively.
