2-Carboxyphenyl phosphate is a substrate molecule that is used in protein gene expression studies. This molecule is typically synthesized by the condensation of two molecules, p-nitrophenyl phosphate and copper chloride. 2-Carboxyphenyl phosphate has been shown to be biocompatible and is an electrochemically reactive molecule that can be used for the detection of bowel disease. 2-Carboxyphenyl phosphate has been shown to have long-term toxicity, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the activity of p-nitrophenol hydroxylase.
