Chlorodiisopropylsilane is a reactive functional group with a carbonyl group. It reacts with hydrocarbons and other organic compounds to form chlorosilanes with the elimination of hydrogen chloride gas. This compound is used as a solvent in the preparation of silicon nanowires, cyclopentane rings, and eribulin. Chlorodiisopropylsilane is also used as a precursor to other silicon-containing molecules including silicon monomers, which are precursors to polymers.
